Andersen and Milgard both have excellent reputations, but they're built around different strengths. Andersen leans premium, with composite and wood windows and a century-plus brand legacy. Milgard focuses on durable, well-priced vinyl and fiberglass with one of the best warranties in the business. Here's a straight comparison to help you choose.
Materials and Construction
Andersen's signature is Fibrex®, a composite of reclaimed wood fiber and polymer that's about twice as strong as vinyl, holds slim profiles, and resists fading. Andersen also offers true wood and aluminum-clad wood lines for high-end and architectural projects. The look and feel skew premium.
Milgard specializes in high-quality vinyl (Trinsic, Tuscany, Style Line) and fiberglass (Ultra). The fiberglass Ultra line is especially stable in extreme temperature swings, and Milgard's vinyl lines deliver strong performance at a more accessible price. The emphasis is durability and value.
Energy Efficiency
Both brands offer ENERGY STAR options with Low-E glass and argon fill, and both perform well in mixed climates. Andersen's High-Performance Low-E4® glass and triple-pane options give it a slight edge at the very top end. Milgard's SunCoat and SunCoatMAX Low-E packages are excellent and, dollar for dollar, deliver strong efficiency for the price.
For most homes, the efficiency gap between a well-specced Milgard and a comparable Andersen is small. The bigger differences are materials, looks, warranty, and price.

This is a Milgard strength. Milgard's Full Lifetime Warranty covers parts, labor, and, on many lines, glass breakage for as long as you own your home. Andersen's warranties are solid and vary by series (generally 10–20 years on glass and shorter on non-glass parts). If a long, comprehensive warranty is a priority, Milgard often comes out ahead.
Cost and Value
Andersen generally costs more for a comparable size, you're paying for premium materials, a wider architectural range, and brand prestige. Milgard typically offers a lower price for similar performance, which makes it a favorite for whole-home replacements where value matters. Neither is 'cheap'; both are quality brands at different points on the price ladder.
Which Should You Choose?
Choose Andersen if you want a premium name, the broadest range of wood and architectural styles, and you're investing in a higher-end or custom project. Choose Milgard if you want excellent durability, a class-leading lifetime warranty, and strong efficiency at a better price, ideal for replacing every window in the house. Both are smart, long-lasting choices; the right one depends on your budget and how premium you want to go.
